What an amazing book. Heartbreaking through a lot of it, but hopeful in parts as well. Hockey played a big part of Saul's life, and who would have thought that'd I'd give 5 stars to a book with a high concentration on sports, that actually went into detail about it. But the author's writing is so beautiful, the storytelling is just amazing! So many parts of this book just blew me away and made me feel so much. I can't wait to read more of his books. A friend lent this to me and after reading, I think I need to get my own. Richard Wagamese writes with such beauty and in such an insightful way to communicate Saul's story with readers. Moments of beauty also came with pain and the author did not shy away from this.

I've had the opportunity to deepen my learning of residential schools and its impact on Indigenous communities from classes and I want to continue looking for texts where I can continue my learning. I liked that Saul had a liking and gift to play hockey, witnessing his plays on the page and finding joy in the game was so nice to read though later in the book this becomes complicated.

Would definitely recommend this book and I see myself rereading it as some point.
