A gut punch. Beautifully and tenderly written throughout, from Saul’s upbringing, to his time in residential school, to such vivid descriptions of hockey (very similar to Beartown in this regard), to his adulthood

AMAZING. Indian Horse is a painful story, beautifully told. The hockey scenes were poetic and action-packed and the characters felt real. "Living" in Indian Horses' perspective throughout the book was jarring and important.
This is the first book I've read by Wagamese, and it certainly will not be the last. I finished it in less than 24 hours. I will certainly be recommending it to my students (especially my hockey players). I can even see pulling out individual chapters to teach to an entire class. Teachers: you will want to warn students about what's discovered in the last couple chapters before they read as this book will trigger some students.

Beautifully heartbreaking. This story brought me to my knees. A must read for every Canadian.

I think it’s interesting but it’s half describing hockey games and I don’t care so I won’t think about it or reread it. It does talk about the residential schools for indigenous kids in North America, which is always hard to read about, but it’s a matter of fact telling which was new to me and appreciated as different.
