A tough read, not particularly graphic but definitely insightful. Interesting to see the cyclical nature of addiction and relationships between addicts. Thought provoking for sure. Read with an open mind and empathetic approach.

Definitely a unique book dealing with a subject and a perspective that is shamefully underrepresented in literature or in any form of media really. Burroughs tells his story in a very matter-of-fact style, no preachiness, no sob stories, no bullshit. The prose is  straightforward and direct but it is still dense and there are some very interesting ideas and thoughts (Chapter 28/Appendix 1 is a great example of that).  The only thing that was missing a bit for me in this book was a bit more of an insight into how an addict kinda keeps up with all the basic adulting life things while having a habit. Like how does one keep up with rent, taxes, electricity bills and such, how does one maintain a family ?
Burroughs shows us in vivid pictures how "Junk" controlled his life and the choices he made, but through all that he still has a wive and children and he always has a place to stay, how?

This being said I m grateful for this book and the insight it offers into an unknown and largely misunderstood world. If I were to compile a list with books that everybody needs to read in their lifetime, this would be on it.

Oowah. Very nice. Hardly structured but not directionless or wishy washy. Big fan of Burroughs outlook. Refreshing.
