Coast Road was a comforting, nostalgic, feel-good read for me, a reminder of the type of book I used to read, but seem to have moved away from in recent years. I know it’s a controversial label but women’s fiction does feel accurate for this book.

Jack and Rachel are divorced, but when she is left in a coma after a car accident, he steps up to take care of their daughters and keeps vigil by Rachel’s bedside. Through this process and conversations with her friends he learns more about the woman he was married to, more about himself and more about why she left him.

The ending wasn’t a surprise but I still enjoyed this undemanding read. It is always nice to be reminded that happy endings can and do happen after a period of trials and tribulations. I also enjoyed a couple of the minor storylines. Rachel’s friend Katherine is a breast cancer survivor, reluctant to get into another relationship after being burned by a couple of men unable to deal with the realities of being with a woman who’s had breast cancer. And then there’s 15 year old Samantha, still struggling with her parents’s divorce and now her mother’s accident, and learning the hard way the dangers of an older bad boy.

This is a book my friend @biblioreviews put on my radar many years ago. It took me quite some time to track down a copy but I did eventually get my hands on one.
