This book was better than I thought it would be. It was touching and it told of divorce from a man's point of view.

Coast Road was a comforting, nostalgic, feel-good read for me, a reminder of the type of book I used to read, but seem to have moved away from in recent years. I know it’s a controversial label but women’s fiction does feel accurate for this book.

Jack and Rachel are divorced, but when she is left in a coma after a car accident, he steps up to take care of their daughters and keeps vigil by Rachel’s bedside. Through this process and conversations with her friends he learns more about the woman he was married to, more about himself and more about why she left him.

The ending wasn’t a surprise but I still enjoyed this undemanding read. It is always nice to be reminded that happy endings can and do happen after a period of trials and tribulations. I also enjoyed a couple of the minor storylines. Rachel’s friend Katherine is a breast cancer survivor, reluctant to get into another relationship after being burned by a couple of men unable to deal with the realities of being with a woman who’s had breast cancer. And then there’s 15 year old Samantha, still struggling with her parents’s divorce and now her mother’s accident, and learning the hard way the dangers of an older bad boy.

This is a book my friend @biblioreviews put on my radar many years ago. It took me quite some time to track down a copy but I did eventually get my hands on one.

It was a bit agonizing the entire chapters but worthy as it had many realizations and lessons learned. Plus the ending is beautiful I can still feel my heart pounding. I feel like I want to move out of the city. Maybe one day.......

Rachel Keats and Jack McGill had been divorced for six years when he got the call. She was in accident and at the hospital, would he come?

Bitter, Jack thought he would drive up from San Francisco -Rachel lived in Big Sur- settle his daughters, see that Rachel had everything she needed and return to his previous lifestyle. After all, she had left him once before. Except when he arrived she was in a coma.

Through painstaking flashbacks, Jack had time to reckon his marriage, career and relationships. He fought an uphill battle to reestablish a link with his daughters. He rehashed what were now seen as miscommunications between Rachel and himself. He saw the final years of his marriage in a different light all the while, traveling back and forth between the hospital, the girls’ schools and Rachel’s home.

Other readers pointed out the repetitioness and Jack’s friendship with Rachel’s best friend, Katherine, as obstacles. I never thought this. It was a cathartic journey for Jack, a brief time of growing up for his daughters and an eye-opening quickening that friendships are important.

I loved this story with all its emotions rising to the challenge. I was embedded in the romance from beginning to end. The closest I can compare this plot of a marriage-gone-wrong and second chances is Theresa Weir’s [b:One Fine Day|736504|One Fine Day (Molly, #2)|Theresa Weir|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1256598711s/736504.jpg|722683].

Delinsky is a guilty pleasure author for me. When I feel like I should be reading something weightier, her books always draw me in and I can't stop reading til I'm done.

The ending on this one was a bit abrupt, maybe rushed? Still, I couldn't put it down for very long.

Eh, maybe 2.5 stars. I found it rather slow-moving and a little too cliche/predictable.

I guess it's odd to give a book four stars when you can't remember it a week later. I think it was fun in a chick lit sort of way...
