Not very addictive, even if you tried. I had trouble finishing it, I think it's either black or white. Either you see yourself in Holden and like it, or you don't and don't like it. The beginning of the book was good, but the further along I got, the less I liked it. It became boring, with no action...

a disjointed thought dump about the book:
-I personally don't think one necessarily needs to identify with Holden (I didn't much) to like the book, as many other readers suggest but instead, understand him. It's kind of ironic to think of the hate Holden receives because of his character being misinterpreted, when
Spoiler all he's wanted is to be understood.

- It was interesting to see how Holden himself was
Spoiler a phony, if one holds him up to his own standards.

- His relationship with his sister was very heartwarming.

Although I expected it to be more impressive due to its reputation, I still enjoyed the story. It reads smoothly and there's nothing particularly difficult about the narrative, just a guy telling what he’s going through. I absolutely loved the ending too, probably because Phoebe reminds me of my little sister.

People always claim Holden's whiney, but that's being young. I also played him for a theater scene in high school, so that's my bias.

Arguably the worst book I’ve ever read, made me feel manic
