One Sentence Synopsis: Jade goes undercover to live with the dragon shifters--her sworn enemy--but meets Billy which changes everything.

This was a good start to a series. The characters were enjoyable. The beginning was a little slow to start, but it picked up towards the middle. Some plot points were a little predictable, but it didn't hamper my enjoyment of the novel at all. I really enjoyed how Jade must learn to overcome her prejudices/training to see the enemy as people instead of... well, enemies/people to destroy. I liked reading about Jade and Billy, but I feel like something was lacking... Not sure yet! But I adore a good student/teacher forbidden romance. Eager to see what happens next!

To start this off, I really do love the plot of this and the direction it was going.

However, I felt like it was lacking a lot of context. The storyline felt rushed and chaotic. Like the author threw bits of information in as an after thought to try and explain motivates or situations.

I also found the timeline to be a little frustrating. You would be reading a scene and all of a sudden the timeline would jump days or weeks without much detail of how the main character got there.

There was a lot of room for more character development too. I really loved the idea of Jade (Jane) and Billy but I found myself wishing for more development in their dynamic. They were enemies to lovers but we miss a lot of the inbetween. I was really hoping for more back and forth instead of the jump from mistrust and assumed hatred, to stolen glances that could possibly hint towards lust to... and they're screwing in an alley.

But like I stated earlier, this story had a lot of potential and I really loved the basic concept of it, I just couldn't get past the rushed, chaotic way the storyline was presented. If I hadn't been provided this book in exchange for a review, this probably would've been one of the first books I did not finish unfortunately.

Dragon Assassin Academy book 1 follows Jade who attends the same school of her father's murderers, in the hopes to avenge his death.
The beginning of this novel was slow but still filled with alot of action, the middle picked up pacing and the characters developments began to fall into place. . The characters were all of substance and stood out on their own, having a purpose that needed fulfilling. The writing it's self was great and informative, that made the world building great and the storyline was well thought out, giving it enough suspension, high drama and keeping the reader glued.
I did however, feel the ending was a little rushed, but overall it was a great start to the series

I hate to say this, but this book was a hot mess from start to finish. In fact, if I hadn't accepted it for review (and therefore felt obligated to finish it), I'd have DNFed it by the half-way mark. As it was, I skimmed the last half.

I found it clunky and disjointed, somehow repetitive AND inconsistent, cliched, predictable, and then cliffhanger to top it all off. Plus, it felt like a lower YA book until the on-page sex showed up—IMO, it needed to be one or have the other, but both didn't work. To list all the examples of why this didn't work for me would feel like I was attacking the book. So, lets just leave it at this is a decent first pass for a manuscript. But it needed more work to be truly readable, let alone enjoyable.
