I want to start by saying I really enjoyed this. However, I actually think it was too short. There were quite a few character development parts that I felt were rushed and/or came up very suddenly which was quite jarring. I think I'd have like for those parts to be expanded more naturally.

This was a heavy read for me- nothing can be scarier than what humanity has done to each other over the centuries. While the book was tense and even a bit scary at times, I also couldn’t help feeling so sad because even though the story is fiction, the atrocities that happened to enslaved people were real. It did take me a bit to get though, but I enjoyed the story and would read this author again.

The writing in the "intersitial" sections was excellent.

Disappointed that most of what happens with the wedding guests is offscreen and we don't find out
if they end up alive or dead.
While I usually don't mind open endings esp in horror, this instance didn't work for me. It felt abrupt and unsatisfying.
