I love this author with a passion. This book was no exception. You get drawn in like a voyeur to Phoenix and Bach's life. Feeling like a part of their lives, watching and hoping they see the links and truths along the way. Screaming at them to see what's going on, and grabbing hold of anything close by while gritting your teeth as the clues lead you and then down paths you weren't expecting. I loved the odd nod to other books in this author's bookcase too. If you love the dark and twisted with suspense thrown in for good measure this is the book for you. It really pulls at your heart strings in places, not wanting to see the pain that is suffered. A truly wonderful book.

Phoenix is sent to prison for a crime she didn’t commit and Zach King will do whatever it takes to torture her for the death of his wife . When new evidence comes to light 3 years later Phoenix is freed only to have Zach tell her they have to work together to catch the serial killer. Fantastic book although I had an idea who the unsub was early on it still didn’t spoil the book for me as much as I wanted to hate Zach for what he did to Phoenix I couldn’t as I know he was in pain over losing Angelica.

I DNF'd this at 15%. I love a good enemies to lovers but damn this is ENEMIES to lovers. For me, the writing in this particular book just wasn't strong enough and I felt that even for a romance book the plot was a bit unbelievable. That cover is fire, though.

i just couldn't read it after the 10th chapter... the hero being weirdly possessive for no reason whatsoever after they hated the heroine enough to beat them up and steal (!) their baby + raise them as their own. - like,,, what the fuck is that.

and the heroine not staying mad and angry at the dude?? but just accepts him being around her and agrees to "cooperate" with him????? what on earth. that's just not realistic AT ALL. i mean i get the concept, don't get me wrong (we love a good soap opera moment) but at least develop their relationship. add depth. something.

this was just not it, i won't even waste my time on finishing it.

The story of Phoenix and Zachary is not a pretty one. It's a story of two stangers united by chance, torn by the heart and head, and reunited through tragedy. As per the blurb of the book, Phoenix is accused and imprisoned for the death of Zach's wife. Yes, Phoenix was the one driving the car but there was no way that she was intoxicated as the reports said because there was a bun in the oven. Unfortunately, this is how these two pen-pals finally met in people after so many years.

Under the effects of grief and anger, Zachary did things that not even I would have forgiven. His daughter, Emmaline, was the one that gave him the strength to continue on in life. She is the reason why he stopped torturing Phoenix in prison. Emmaline is the reason why he's willing to try so hard to find who the real killer is when Phoenix is released three years later after being found innocent.

But things aren't always going to go as he thinks they will. Phoenix hates him (and with good cause). I would hate him. In fact, I wouldn't want him anywhere near me. Their relationship - the push and pull of the heart and the head - made me cry, made me angry for her... it took me into a wild ride. All of the emotions I felt were raw while reading this book. I loved it so much.
