I enjoyed this! A nice holiday romance that incorporates Christmas but at the same time, isn’t too holiday-heavy. I think it could be read any time of year. I wasn’t blown away, but I liked it.

This book turned into more than I expected. The cover alone promises a very sweet romance and that’s certainly what I got. I grew to love these characters so much. It’s easy for the characters in these sweet romances to pass me by without too deep of an attachment, but at some point I just wanted to give these characters hugs and advice. The struggles of being young, figuring out your emotions and really just dealing with yourself was done so well. Shani definitely had some very irritating moments, but they were real and understandable. It never caused me to let her go. If anything, it made me want to help her.
This was a beautiful journey, perfect for this time of the year.

I loved how wintry this book was. I also thought that Shani being a dead fish nerd was a wonderful choice and reading about her experience in the lab was great. Seeing Shani and May explore their DC setting was lots of fun, too!!

Unfortunately I didn’t click with the romance enough. I didn’t like that Shani and May were awkward around each other for the entirety of the book as it was hard to grasp their emotional connection and also made the fact that they loved each other within four weeks unbelievable. As the romance is the main part of this book, this a major sticking point with me.

As a final note,
I didn’t love that the climax of the book was an elderly person having a medical emergency, essentially a plot point engineered to get the MCs in the vicinity of one another again
