I DNFd this two years ago and I thought I was just not in the right place but … clearly not

I usually love Holly Jackson. The Reappearance of Rachel Price is one of my favorite thrillers and I eat up AGGGTM forever, but this one just was NOT for me

At a sentence level, this book was weird. It was clearly meant to be a choice in character voice, but in the end it didn’t read like voice, it just read like the line editor didn't do their job I fear … and it sucks because I know it could’ve been done well how she intended it but it did not land. I also think I have issues with the dialogue in this book because there were several moments where I was like “ohhh…. so people definitely don’t talk like that”

I also just didn’t really vibe with the premise. They were stuck in an RV but it felt so anticlimactic ?? like tell me why it felt like these people who are seconds away from dying seem to have no sense of urgency?? And they’re just kinda collectively dumb and it made me so mad in the worst way possible

I think this one just wasn’t for me and I think if you’re more willing to suspend disbelief and you like the writing style you’ll be fine, but imo it doesn’t read like a holly Jackson book and if you start it and want to DNF you should probably just DNF

I ate this book up in one day and I have no regrets. It is honestly just such a fun, fast-paced, twisty read, and not one that I could wait days for answers haha.

Cukup monoton karena latarnya ceritanya hanya disitu situ saja, suspense nya dapet, tapi Oliver monyet kamu berisik. Karakter sampingannya tuh bener bener sampingan, karena yg dieksplorasi hanya sang MC saja.
