I’m not sure why I decided to read this after my experience with Blindsight, but I’m glad I did... It’s much more well-thought-out. Of course, the vampires are still cheesy.

A white room, innocent of shadow or topography. No angles: that's crucial. No corners or intrusions of furniture, no directional lighting, no geometries of light and shadow whose intersection, from any viewpoint, might call forth the Sign of the Cross.
Not quite on the same level as Blindsight, but a rich, complex and compelling story nonetheless. Plenty of concepts thrown at you to keep you thinking, interesting plots and alien characters to keep you engaged.
