This book is such a delight. I loved it as a kid and I loved revisiting it on audio narrated by Derek Jacobi. Are some of the race and gender politics very much of the time? Yes. But it’s also funny and adventurous and wondrous and has one of the best first lines (and ensuing character arcs) in all of literature.

I think I just found my favourite book out of the Narnian series. I only finished 5 out of the 7 books so I'm not sure, but in all the 5, this one seemed like the best to me (maybe along with the 'The Lion, The witch and the wardrobe' as it was also really good). This one sealed a lot more adventures and I loved the queer magic each island they visited posessed. I would recommend this book especially to the christians out there as most of the story is very much similar to the Bible and the ending of this book implied the same. Loving every bit of the series!

We follow Lucy and Edmund, and their cousin Eustace on voyage with Prince Caspian. It's a pretty chaotic voyage as well.

My biggest complaint with this book is the usage of slaves, if you want to know more about that please see my spoiler area. The first paragraph will be about that, the second part is a spoiler about something that I do like. But I do have a major complaint about that and in regards to with whom.

There were parts that I enjoyed though like the dragons and mermaids and other things that are plot related that I don't want to spoil. I think this is one of the ones that has the strongest character development, outside of the second book, Chronicles of Narnia. But all in all it was an enjoyable for the most part but not my favorite.

Compared to Prince Caspian, I really liked this continuation of the Narnia series. C.K. Lewis does redemption arcs for badly behaved boys well. In this version, it’s a set of fables manifested as islands that King Caspian, Lucy, Edmund, and their cousin Eustace journey to via the Dawn Treader.

As a someone who enjoys fairy tales, I really liked this book a lot as it explored magical challenges for its characters island to island.

The thing is though, once again there is a lot that doesn’t age well. For one, literal slaves. Two, rampant sexism. There’s one female character toward the end who is a literal “prize” and doesn’t even have a name. She might as well be a footnote. Three, very rarely do the children actually solve the problems they’re facing themselves. And lastly, technically speaking, the ending just kind of ends. Rather abrupt.
