I honestly didn’t enjoy this book at all, call me harsh or say I have high expectations. But the fact that this book is called Great Expectations made me have really high expectations. And it just didn’t satisfy me at all. I felt like pips character was not very enjoyable and was lacking common sense, also very immature. I also felt like Dickens caused unnecessary problems. This being said he wrote a 400 page book with the plot less than 20 pages… and no I did not like the ending. Don’t get me started on the fact that Betty has loved him forever but he wants Estella who’s married to pips archenemy. But don’t be fooled pip will never stop loving Estella even when she’s married, playing him, using harsh words toward him, list going on… yet he FINALLY loves Bitty goes to ask for her hand but she’s already married to pips father figure. Are you confused? Yes, I am to.
Don’t get me wrong the story line is great. The characters involvement with each other is great. The growth of the characters are great but I felt they grew, but never actually grew up. So was this book great? I guess that’s up to your expectations.
P.S. we probably all know Charles dickens changed the ending, after his friends thought the ending unsettling. But who were his friends? cause his “improved” ending wasn’t anything better then his first.

Las cien primeras páginas son maravillosas y las cien últimas desoladoras; todo lo que hay entremedias se vuelve tedioso a ratos, y solo los puntos de intriga y algunos personajes secundarios brillantes consiguen salvarlo. Excelente caracterización de los personajes, especialmente del protagonista, adorable en un capítulo y despreciable en el siguiente, pero quizá falta una nota de carisma en él que ayude a sobrellevar la densa parte media de la novela. En líneas generales, un libro bastante irregular.

Slow to get going but found the later chapters compelling with plot twists I didn’t see coming. Also love the slightly melancholy ending that makes you think about what could’ve been both in the novel and reflectively esp w the earlier line that asks the reader to think about the chains that thread together your own life . Also love the 2 endings
Brilliant characters, and a great story. Even more, it beautifully celebrates what is praiseworthy, and uncovers what is not. At the end I could not help but consider what my heart was truly wanting in my own life.
