I liked the actual story and the characters, but man - this story takes forever to get through! I found myself referring to Spark Notes every few chapters just to make sure I understood what was going on. It's not a difficult book to read, just extremely wordy.
I have always been afraid of reading Dickens. I read some of his short stories previously but never picked up any of his novels. For some reason, I always thought the language would be too complicated or the story would be too dense. After finishing my first Dickens' novel I'm glad to say that I loved every moment of it. It has been a while since a book has surprised me so much. The narrative was so well structured and memorable and the characters were so interesting. Not to mention the obviously excellent writing. Now I will have to read all that Charles Dickens has published! I can't wait!

I was told by a few sources that this is Dickens' best novel. I didn't really care much for Dickens before reading this, but now I understand why people like him so much.
