I am so pleasantly surprised with this! The writing is absolutely beautiful. I love the long dramatic monologues that Mickey has. The exploration of being a criminal defense attorney is done so freaking well. Mickey constantly manipulates and twists interactions to give him what he wants. I like the grey area and the question of when morally ambiguous becomes morally corrupt.
The plot was so unpredictable and fun. It had a little bit of that TV Drama feel to it, but not in an annoying way.
This is not a book I would have chosen for myself, so thanks to my boss for lending it to me.

Representing some unsavory characters in his work as a defense lawyer, Mickey Haller takes on his first high-paying and possibly innocent client in years, but finds the case complicated by events that suggest a particularly evil perpetrator.

I typically do not enjoy books in the 1st person perspective, but I really enjoyed the storytelling Connelly did here. I liked it better than the Netflix series, but is that really any surprise.
The book which made me hate and fell in love with this profession all over again.
