Alternate reality where Harry Potter decides to kill those in charge of Hogwarts when he learns whose responsible for his parents death. Oh but in this reality there is actual diversity and LGBTQ+ representation- so overall a better story lol.

Only one star off for some pacing issues, but still overall a great story.

Harry Potter meets Mistborn, but unfortunately missing the aspects that made either story work.
I really wanted to like this book and it had potential, but ultimately failed to take the premise anywhere interesting.

A YA novel set in a deadly school with political themes that are thought provoking! This book is like if Harry Potter was written in the world of From Unseen Fire (way better than Game of Throne, but similar in tone with less rape and no torture porn) with hints of Hunger Games (I didn't like Hunger Games, but I think it's a helpful description here). This book takes the terrorist teen hero and puts them into an elite school for wizards and then has the character actually grow as a character. I wish the book had been a bit longer, but I think the author did a good job with the pacing and the light world building. It's not a epic fantasy, so don't expect a lot of detail on the way the magic works, but it provides enough that you can be intrigued and hope that there will be a sequel where it's further explored. There's lot of death and violence, but no rape, which I really appreciate.

I liked this book, even though it was too short and fast. I loved Alka, her strength and her need of revenge, she was probably the only character I really appreciated.

The world building is amazing and the plot, even being common, was perfect. My problem remains the length and the way the author developed some things!

I'm not sure what to rate this book. There were parts that I liked, like the premise, but other parts that I didn't connect to at all, like the main character and the writing. Overall, give it a try if the premise intrigues you, which is basically Harry Potter if he was a girl and wanted to burn Hogwarts down.
