Difficult to know what to say about this. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t already a fan. I’ve seen his work described as ‘banal realism’, which is pretty accurate for most,  though unusually not all, of this book too.  I don’t know if this is a good or bad book, easier to argue the latter perhaps, but I am a fan, got completely sucked in, only noticing the 800 page length during the essay section. Very much looking forward to seeing how the trilogy concludes, almost anything, or nothing, could happen.

Knausgaard always presents youth with such presence, balancing flaw-filled depth and earnest naivety, so flew through Syvert’s section. Alevtina’s felt bloated but had its moments. Not the trip for me.
More Syvert as undertaker pls.
Would love a take on why Russia takes centre stage.
Very much lookin forward to the next one.
