This book is the sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea and as such, takes on a different point of view and another time in the tale. In it you will find growth, memories, family, adventure, mystery, fear, dread, struggle, solidarity, care, and love. The descriptions and banter are both delicious and satisfying. This is a tale with lessons and imagery that will not soon leave you. TJ Klune aims to be the anti-J.K. Rowling and he succeeds at that, and surpasses even beyond her work. Every word and world he has created is deeply thoughtful, and I am glad for the invitation he has offered to us to participate in humbly learning from the children who lead the way forward to a more compassionate and welcoming future.

This book was fucking delightful. The extremely thinly veiled mocking of bigotry of all kinds warms my heart. The characters were perfectly imperfect and the relationships are beyond beautiful. Thank you TJ Klune for another book I’ll treasure for all my days. They may be loud, but we’re louder.
