Anne of Ingleside is another purely comfort read. It is so soft, like curling up with a cup of tea under a warm blanket while rain pings against the windows. I did not expect to fall in love with Anne and Gilbert's children as much as I did. This is a filler book, written later in Montgomery's life, but it is so sweet. The children's personalities are all so fleshed out, and their adventures kept me hooked. Another absolute joy to read!

I feel like the overall pacing and flow of the story just dropped in quality with this final entry.

It felt all over the place and in between some dreadfully long winded side stories we got some really enjoyable ones, which was a shame they were overshadowed by  the boring chapters before.

It was ok. I couldn’t keep up with all of Anne’s children I’m afraid and the other extra characters thrown in, maybe will need to re read and concentrate harder on it. Although there was some joy to be found in between all the jumble.

I enjoyed getting to know the children and Susan, but felt like Anne was a secondary character in the story. While all of the Anne of Green Gables series includes many mini-stories, I still have felt there was an overarching theme or plot woven through the book. This one did not seem to have that and I missed it.

I actually really enjoyed the last few chapters where Anne is dealing with some sadness and insecurity, and wish we would have seen more of that depth and complexity sprinkled in throughout the book (while still staying lighthearted and fanciful overall, of course, being true to Anne's spirit and the rest of the series).

It was okay. It felt like a short story collection loosely connected by Anne being there. There were a few moments where I smiled at the sweetness of it, and saw flashes of the spirited Anne of Green Gables, but for the most part, I was bored and trudging (so slowly!!) to the end. Anne was only really central to the book in the first part and the very end, with a very long and tedious mid section.

3.5

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Some people think Anne got boring. I disagree!
