This book was mainly in the perspective of Anne and Gilbert's children, which was interesting because I could see all the little characteristics that Gilbert and Anne possess reflected in their children. But, it was also a bit sad that the book was less about Anne. I think their housekeeper/cook Susan was mentioned more than Anne in some instances (bless Susan, she's amazing and I love her). It was also sad to realize that more and more, Marilla, Diana, and Rachel Lynde fade from the books. I guess it really indicates how much things can change as Anne has her own family life to deal with. So, I guess that is the nice thing about this series so far....you get to follow Anne as she matures into an adult and see her grow over the years. The ending of this book was quite nice and brought back a lot of nostalgia from the earlier books, which was comforting.

I read this book when I was a teenager learning to love to read. Anne of Green Gables (book and films) was a childhood classic for me and getting to read more about her life was so exciting for me as a teen. So now rereading this series is fun to go back into those stories I loved, and read it now with a more comprehesive idea of what I love in books. Although this really didn't have a plot line (it was more a series of stories about Anne's adult life and getting to know her little family) I loved seeing the classic Anne of Green Gables raising crazy imaginative children like she was. And then to see her's and Gilbert's personalities in their kids. There were points when I could really picture Anne as a little orphan getting into the trouble her kids were getting into. I loved that aspect of it. Definitely more of a nostalgic read than anything else, especially if you loved Anne of Green Gables.
By Book 6, Anne has ceased to be Anne. She's almost a minor character in a book that's still named for her.
I remember being 11 and a talker with a big vocabulary and finding a kindred spirit in Anne. I was disappointed as she aged (so much faster than me!), but here we’d caught up, briefly, and I found myself also 34 with six children. I sometimes quit this series at book 5, because the last three are so much about Anne’s children and not her, and because I always found 40 year old Anne a little depressing. While I still wonder at the wisdom of the marital jealousy in a children’s book, I had more sympathy this time with an Anne who wonders if the rest of her life can be as wonderful as she imagined, and hopeful with her that it can.

Fun glimpse of Anne and her children. The summary makes it seem like a big part of the book is about Anne worrying Gilbert doesn't love her. That's seriously only the last 30 minutes. It's mostly about her children and their antics.
While I still truly love these later Anne books they just don't have the same flavor of the original. This one was easy to put down but was also just as easy to get back into again.
