Litt trist at Anne blir en bikarakter i sin egen bok. Heldigvis er barna hennes like sjarmfulle som Anne selv, og skuffelsen blir litt mindre

I love Anne's kids. Really, not much else to say than that. I like to see Anne and Gilbert as parents, and the continuation of their story is very satisfying!

Update July 2023: I love reading about Anne’s family, and if this book was just that, it would be 5 stars. But there are chapters of gossip, and stories of characters we don’t care about. It’s so unnecessary! Oh well, it’s always still worth the read because of all the little gems throughout.
tense slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No

I hated how at the end it seemed like Gilbert was tired of Anne and not in love anymore.

I will make a little pause now, mostly because even if Anne is the most important character for me, Montgomery switched her attentions on her and Gilbert children, that I find not so fascinating I must admit, maybe in a bit of time, when I will miss her terribly, I will read the other 3 books.

Loved that this book starting hearing from the kid’s POV. Sad that this is the last Anne book, but excited to read more about the kid’s adventures

Really enjoyed seeing all the characters’ personalities come out!

Jadi geleng2 sendiri. Ya ampuuun... anak baik2 seperti anak2 keluarga Blythe ini sekarang masih diproduksi ga ya? :)

This year I've been re reading my Anne books from my childhood, and this is the last one that was published as a set with pictures from the series with Megan Follows as Anne (who to my mind is the only Anne, but anyway...)

This is Anne in maturity, covering several years, six or seven at least, and I guess sees Anne heading towards 40. Perhaps she is catching me up now. The family are now living in their Ingleside house, where they had to move to from the House of Dreams on account of the growing family. Anne is a happy housewife most of the time, with trusted Susan as housekeeper, Gilbert is a sucessful although often tired doctor, and the children are growing up, becoming personalities. There's one more baby to rock up, Bertha Marilla, or Rilla (I have gotten a hold of one of the later books, Rilla of Ingleside to read for the first time) and that complete's Anne's busy period of pregnancies, with seven children, six living, with one set of unidentifical twins.

Although this is set around the turn of the century - 1800s to 1900s - there is a lot you can still relate to even today. Town gossip (just think of the ladies' quilting group), marriages becoming a little taken for granted, worries as people creep towards middle age, children's imaginations, bullying at school and the hatefulness of little girls. Poor Di who is the victim of two little compulsive liars/sociopaths - Jenny Penny and then Delilah. Little girls who tell very tall tales about their own lives, push Di into becoming their very best friend, forsaking all others, and then found to be untrue, telling horrible stories to all the school children about DI - thus completing the total alienation of their intended victim. Sadly some things never change.

I don't know how exciting this book would be had you not read any of the other Anne books. They're really meant as a series, so you can grow and live alongside Anne. There's references to characters from previous books, and if you hadn't met them in full detail in the past, they may feel a little meanignless now. It's sad there aren't more conversations and escapades of these adults when they pop up again. Oh, Anne is in the book, but she's one of a line up of characters rather than being the main one, and there are plenty of chapters when her kids take centre stage. And fair enough, we are curious as to what the children of Anne Shirley would be like. L M Montgomery certainly gets beyond that old myth of life ends at marriage - yes, we follow the dramatic courtship, and then they get married and live happily ever after, the end - so there are two books of Anne post marriage (not sure how much she features in the final two) but it also feels a little as though we're running out of steam with Anne and there's not as much to be said. Which is sad, because I feel there's still so much to be said. And given that her kids aren't babies and she has a full time housekeeper, why isn't she writing much anymore? But it's good that we get to travel through life with Anne, and in many respects, I suppose this is a realistic depiction of how women's lives of that era went.

Like I said, I can’t think of a single book in the Anne of Green Gables novels that I’d rank lower than 5 stars. I love the descriptions of nature (human and otherwise), the anecdotes about life and love, and seeing Anne-Girl be a mother to six precious children (who are also learning so much about the ups and downs of life).
