If you thought Anne got into mischief as a child, wait until you read about her children. This book is a wild romp full of love, laughter, and heart.
4 stars
After all of the not so good reviews, I didn't really have high hopes for this book. And I'm so glad I didn't because I enjoyed it so much! It definitely wasn't perfect and it isn't the best book in the series but I still really liked it.
Many people complain about Anne not really being in this book and that's kinda true. Like I read in some other review, she just sometimes appears, gives some motherly advice to her children and then leaves again. I would like her to be a bigger part of the story and I agree with the fact that Anne's jealousy was completely over the top and off. That definitely wasn't the Anne we knew.
But I have to admit I liked those stories of Anne and Gilbert's children. It reminded me a bit of the first book Anne of Green Gables even though it was really different. I really liked Rilla with the cake and I wish there would be more of her but now it made me kinda excited for the last book in the series which is all about Rilla. I also wished there would be some story from Shirley's point of view because we don't know anything about him.
I still wish there would be more of Diana and Gilbert because they kinda hardly appear in it and they seem like completely different people. But overall, I kinda liked it and I'm glad I didn't have such high hopes.

I loved reading about Anne as a mother to her little brood. And also seeing her relationship with Gilbert still was very strong. I'm sure I read the later ones as a kid, but I didn't remember this one. It's nice to see her happy with a big family. That's why the movie always bugged me. It's not how it ended.
Honestly needs more romance but we love a good family story

Wasn’t what I felt like at this moment in time - struggled as I’d kind of forgotten the story of the first books

Definitely not my favorite of the series, but I always appreciate the prose. Montgomery has such a way of writing as a woman, for women. I love the insights she offers, that only a woman can offer. I was taken aback by Anne having so many children. I identified with her character so much, until this book. I think it’s adorable, but I wanted to hear more of Anne, and not her ridiculous amount of children. How bittersweet to realize I’m aging apart from Anne.
