7/14: i have a clear memory of reading this at one of my brother’s soccer games in 2017 and i think i journaled about it too im sure of it that was when i religiously journaled every day where did THAT go that ended last year. a disproportionate amount of my journal entries contained references to Anne books. also this one is the most pristine of my Anne books meaning there are no major spine creases let’s go
- yeehee here we go
- a visit to Avonlea to start things off because these things are never forgotten <3 aww Anne Cordelia I honestly forgot about her existence I feel like for some undefinable reason out of the mentioned Wright kids Jack is the only one I’ve ever remembered at any given point in time (sometimes I’m like SHAME that we never rly got to know that much about Diana after she married and her kids and then I kind of agree with the people who don’t like the series after the first three like it would’ve been fun although obviously I am of the opinion that it makes sense)
- ellipses time we are SOO back (tracking Maud’s writing habits by how often she uses ellipses kinda wild this and Avonlea were written 20 years apart)
- AUNT MARY MARIA NOOOOO
- i know perfectly well why i’ve never been able to imitate Maud’s writing … it’s not because of the fragmented phrases Lord knows I have enough of those myself it is literally just because i do NOT see the world as Anne does in all its hues and glories and i WISH i did (why isn’t “do” grammatical there it should be) chat maybe i pull a Thoreau and jus kinda go hang out alone in the woods ? i want to write like Maud help (UTDB staring daggers at me from buried google docs rn teehee)
- Ingleside my beloved… guys after I saw the listing of the Real ingleside by the Montgomery family I lost it bc like. IT EXISTS. IT’S REAL. AND THEY’RE SELLING IT FOR 900K CAD. WHAT!!!!!! sobbing also it helped me imagine the Actual Thing i literally could not picture it like ever and it made me sad (me when i am bad at mapping things out). also Lone Willow Farm is a cute name and on the topic of trees you are attached to i am greatly attached to the cherry blossom tree outside my guest room window my beloved
- ah yes back to the post-war “war is a thing of the past” aggressive foreshadowing thank you Maud this book is wild for its foreshadowing coughwaltercough i remember THAT
- Rainbow Valley was known as The Hollow first WHAT I have NO memory of this LMAO that’s crazyyyy it’s always been Rainbow Valley to me
- the little kids SOBBB Walter calling Gog and Magog “God and My God” is ICONIC
- guys the Aunt Mary Maria saga is absolutely BRUTAL in retrospect lmao literally what is happeninggg this is awful Susan is so real and right for all her thoughts and feelings here wowzers

OH I FORGOT THAT THIS HAS SUCH A FUNNY ENDING OH ANNE LMAOOO THE BEST OF INTENTIONS I remembered halfway through help. ok I lowkey like old misogynist Chase a bit just because his cat’s named Thomas the Rhymer also he’s kinda funny unfortunately. oh i cannot believe it i would like to repeat my rhetorical question from the p revious point… WHO LET ME WRITE IN BOOKS LMFAO there’s just a big “NO” next to Mr Chase messing with Miss Cornelia about evolution. oh my word. i cannot. the matchmaking arc is absolutely hilarious i was so right.
- awwww Gyp! sob
- “YOU ARE A TRANSUBSTANTIATIONALIST” HOWLING i had to triple check how that was spelled ngl bro just accused him of being Catholic sCREAM

- crying Mrs. Mitchell
- hehe here is the naming of Rainbow Valley for real also aw Rilla’s lisp lmao. Jem fighting for Walter <3
- aauhguhgsdhdfhj Jem and his dogs sob
- aww little Nan and her bargains with God chat the anecdotes (wrong word y/n) in this book are SO funny from an adult perspective but also just so right for these Blythe kids yk
- aAHFJLHFD Jenny Penny scream idk like these are silly wild adventures but also. those kids… feelsbadman. WHAT a family to be in.
- help not Susan being like “yea but we don’t know anything about their families why invite them” also her inner monologue is Very much that one story in TBAQ about the wedding LMAOAOAO
- “she ought not to rejoice until she found out whether her baby was elected or not” SOBBING. shoutout to Myra Murray. Walter hearing all of this from his hiding spot is beyond funny.
- also i Wish i had this kind of imagination all these kids have my imagination consisted of the most outlandish story scenarios imaginable it is a wonder i cant write given the things i came up with (the RA Maryland thing still haunts me fr) but reading ab Walter and Nan’s fancies is SO wild to me Nan’s GLOOMY HOUSE is so very very Anne and also I think it’s funny the twins take so much after their namesakes but also the GLOOMY HOUSE is also Emily somehow LMAO so yeah Nan was clearly set up to be another Anne and Di another Diana but we simply stopped getting them after RV - oh wow sudden timeskip in ch33 we be wilding. also the casual cruelty of a lot of these stories did NOTTT register in my 10 year old brain so i am kinda shocked

- oh TRUE TO FORM there is no Shirley story ripbozo
- guys i Honestly fully forgot most of these personality traits istg i need to stop thinking about Rilla of Ingleside specifically this is so embarrassing
- OH DELILAH also yeah oh gosh the kids they don’t really know about Anne’s childhood,,, yeesh. I mean like how do you really well and truly explain that at this age + Anne doesn’t like talking about it in general so Makes Sense but ouch. Di being SOOO dramatic here with her ITALICS is sending me. I guess Di and Rilla have more in common than red hair and being Walter’s confidant!!!!
- also wowzers yah Ingleside has had a lot of pets beyond Jack Frost and Dog Monday i forgot about
- oh Anne :( finally a character in your own story except it is extremely bad and awful and terrible. this is an absolutely wild bit because it is so actually ROUGH it’s beyond all the crazy funny silly things in this book also this IS still an Anne of ___ book skull
- if i say “also” one more time ill scream but ALSO!! this Christine is v different from Gilbert’s casual “she was one of the nicest girls I ever knew” in Island. and I have always been deeply dismayed to share a name with her. this part is painful. typo in my copy on p268.
- chat this is so romantic LET’S GO i have a newfound appreciation for Shirbert for real
- NOOOOO THE CROSS ABOVE WALTER’S BED MAUD WHY the straight reference to Courcelette I’d FORGOTTEN ABOUT TAHT
- dont rly have a soapbox here. i just think this is a fun? book but both this and windy poplars seem more short-story collection than the others + im beginning to realize i greatly miss Redmond Anne & Gilbert too LMAO oh how the tables turn. it is a little crazy how it’s just episodic Blythe kids until the end when Anne Finally becomes the focus of a book named after her. Susan, however, is the crowning glory and will continue to be

Oh, my heart! It's not that it was broken, but Anne's so grown up and her kids are getting so big and I know this series can't go on too much longer! I'm also fearing for the next few books because of one little line of foreshadowing and the fact that Marilla and Mrs. Lynde can't survive for forever... but I adored this book for the most part. Nan reminded me of Anne as a girl and all the children were absolutely precious... I can't wait to continue this wonderful journey but I'm pacing myself because I very well may cry when this precious series is over. 10+

Any time spent with Anne and her family is time delightfully spent, ESPECIALLY through Maud's whimsical and wonder-filled eyes. ❤️

I read this just out of obligation to finish the series, but there’s very little Anne in Anne of Ingleside. The story mainly focuses on her six children and while it’s nice to see the aspects of Anne they have inherited, this is not the book for fans of the whimsical world of Anne Shirley.
Interesting to have Anne's attributes scattered throughout her children.
Blythe is still a drag.

'Anne always liked to get up early and catch that mystical half-hour before sunrise when the world belongs to the fairies and the old gods'.
Everytime I read another Anne book I admire the beautiful writing. She really knows how to see beauty in the little things in nature.
