I really had a hard time connecting to the main character and felt like the full story of the "incident" came way too late in the book.

This is a wannabe Gillian Flynn novel. It comes up a little short but still very very good. I listened to it on audible and was drawn to it whenever I had a few minutes, which hasn't happened in a long time.

2.5 rounded up. This book needs to come with trigger warnings. A really challenging read for a lot of reasons. You can really feel the author's pain despite its flaws.

Mila Kunis did such a great job bringing Ani to life, to the screen I mean.

This story is very personal to me. There were many scenes that I had to pause and breath a little deeper to take. I have rooted for her, I am her and there were many times I wanted to throw something at the tv in anger.

Trauma is something I have been working on/ living with my whole life and it is never something that goes away.

I wanted to buy this book years ago and just after reading the plot I knew right away that it was a story as much like mine.

We are many and silently fighting for justice. Like Ani, I just might be one of the Luckiest Girls Alive.

I'll put more in the content warning section, but I don't say this often. I wish I'd read trigger warnings before deciding to read this. What I will say is that the "surprising turn" (or something to that effect on the back cover), wasn't terribly surprising to me, but that's because I lived the experience much of the author's research was based in. 2.5 stars. It was just okay, story wise, definitely nowhere near as engaging or with as in depth a plot as any Gillian Flynn novel. I don't know how this book got so much hype, except the hot button subject matter. The main character is far from the strong female lead I was expecting, and instead was frustratingly weak and kind of annoying. The plot is unsatisfying and lame, nothing that hasn't been seen before.

One of the most unlikeable main characters I’ve ever met.

This was an entertaining listen, but comparing this to Gone Girl is a sin! I was waiting and waiting for a twist and.... nah. 3.5 stars

Extremely depressing, and especially hard to read as a parent.
