I don't go for nonfiction often - I find it's usually a bit tough to jump into at first and I read a lot before bedtime, when I prefer to get lost in the imaginary world of a good story. While Bad Science provided me with the usual slow start, I am immensely glad I stuck with it. For a book that claims it's tagline, if it had one, would be "I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that", it sure is a straightforward, clear, highly informative and fascinating read. I thoroughly enjoyed the chapter discussing the placebo effect and think it can help anyone who wants to learn about the scientific method (and not just in evidence based medicine).
3.5 stars. Very interesting and illuminating, and accessible enough that an extremely un-scientific person such as myself could understand it (I did give up on the stats chapter though). Goldacre’s disdain for both humanities graduates and journalists sometimes felt a little unnecessarily harsh and generalised.
