This book is actually called "Lemons", not "Lemon" as Goodreads has it listed. These stories center around the lives of several different characters in Poland and Canada. I enjoyed the stories, but they also made me uncomfortable, as there were several stories involving physical and sexual abuse and molestation.
I have to wonder if some of the stories aren't a bit autobiographical - the author's name is Kasia and there are two characters named Basia and Stasia. Basia seems the most similar to Kasia - they both emigrated from Poland to Canada, Basia has a degree in physiology while Kasia has a degree in microbiology, and in one story Basia is trying to be a writer while Kasia herself is an emerging author.
The author chose to not use quotation marks around the dialogue, which I don't personally like, but the overall writing was gritty and sharp.
