Opening with caveat that I know this book is marketed as middle-grade; but there are still couple of points/aspects I wished were fleshed out more.
Things I loved about the book: the sibling relationships, and just Mite in general, being a grubby, explosive, yet adorable and straightforward youngest sibling. The worldbuilding: the magical structure were interesting and fun; and the descriptions of the tropical/island settings were an interesting change from the typical fantasy environs.
Things I wished were fleshed out more: Noa's worries about Julian and the revelation of their family's/mother's past. There were a lot of questions raised within the book about grey morality but weren't further explored. The ending felt like a return to the status quo without the necessary effort expended to address these questions. A lot of the book felt like it might have been leading to a sequel.
All in all, quite enjoyable; and I love Heather Fawcett's writing.

Čtivé, milé a oddechové. Přesně to jsem u knihy hledala.

I was expecting a slightly spooky, maybe a little shallow, middle grade fantasy and instead I got a deeper dive. This book does sibling relationships well, and it does morality well, but it never got quite as deep as I would have liked. That said, it *is* middle grade. I thoroughly enjoyed this one I just wish it had been a little meatier and/or I'd had more time to settle in with these characters (and learn more about the magic system).
