This was a decent supplement story to a series I already love.
The overall plot was not the greatest and I felt there was a bunch of convenient story telling / withholding information from the MC to create the necessary tension and drama. But as I really like the world already this novella was otherwise pretty enjoyable.
I especially loved the part where we met some of the beloved characters from the Green Bone Saga: Hilo and the Maik brothers.
Although it is a prequel I think it is best read after already having finished the Green Bone Saga.

Review: The Jade Setter of Janloon by Fonda Lee (Green Bone Saga prequel novella)
Quotes: "Some pieces are too broken to fix.."
"A man doesn't have to be unkind or unlikable to have enemies. Sometimes, it's good people who are hated for who they are."
Review: The Jade Setter who repairs and makes jewelry for all the clans and Jade bearers of the city, who's a master at his craft is trusted to repair the moon blade of the head of one of the two most powerful clans in the city. It's stored securely in a safe. Overnight, the contents of the safe are stolen. The only suspect the police have is a vulnerable member of the staff. The Apprentice, Pulo must find the blade not only to save her. But his life and his master's.
It was interesting to learn about who made the jewelry for the Jade Warriors. They're pieces of art that must also be durable for battling.
While the story isn't quite as impactful as the main story. It was still interesting. And it was nice to see some familiar characters make an appearance. It has a bit of a "who done it?" element. And a bit of a noir mystery.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I recommend reading it only after you've at least read Jade City.
Thanks for reading. 📚
