Fun enough for a novella. Enjoyed the period details for NYC and the very different take on the Elder Gods mythos.

Good conversations. This was just okay to me. I think I was expecting more of a horror element than we got from this book.

4.5/5 why not a full 5? Well, I had a little ocd on the ballad aspect. Was he technically a magician who shared his learned words from his father? Yes, but only a few. A ballad of a murderer is told from the murderers perspective, which is not done in this case. Okay, now that my small rant is out of the way…..
This is a potent novella. The language and choice of words, just wow! There’s a wonderful conjuring of the world as it was in the 1920s along with the people and their culture. The gore in this story is few but very effective. What scared me most wasn’t the, well I can’t tell you, but I will say Ma Att gave me goosebumps.
But a wealthy man’s reality is remade at will. -p.44
“I’ll take Cthulhu over you devils any day.” -p.143
