After reading Illium and Aodhan's story, I was like Nalini, you better come through and redeem yourself grllll (bc their story wasn't consummated! like if youre gonna give us queer, go full queer! me, as a queer, was super disappointed at the lack of follow through) BUT ANYWHO---

Ivan and Soleil were enjoyable!
It's Nalini's usual blend of bright, all loving woman with the haunted, silent but strong, restricted and tamped down man, though this time she's also pretty haunted.
(I've also realized that the traumas and circumstances that Nalini's character go through/have lived through are.... so extreme, like sheeeesh, I know it's fiction but DAM.)

The way Soleil's conflict resolved was remarkably simple (once revealed to Dark River), and a lot quicker/smoother than I'd expect in the plot. But it had to leave time for Ivan to resolve his conflict, so, okay - understandable to get that outta the way to make some room.

The way Ivan's Psy ability was described continuously throughout the book, for some reason, I still do not understand what it is (LOL) even tho Soleil kinda metaphorically describes it near the end. The depictions are still pretty vague, so I'm still curious about what exactlyyyy he's doing - perhaps Nalini will bring more of this in future books!

I'm starting to think Nalini's gonna feature the whole Mercant family before we get Malachai and Miane!! LMAO CMON PLS! GIVE US BLACKSEA!!! XD

This was so good! I loved Soleil and Ivan's relationship. Their both broken and trying to fix themselves and it was wondering. Also loved how the plot kept getting more complex and finding out who the Scarab Queen is

Hard to believe this is the 21st book in the overall series and yet they still draw you in and provide a compelling story.

While there were some slow/confusing moments, overall I thought Storm Echo was a decent read. There were cute scenes, poignant scenes, and, though confusing, I thought the actions scenes were rather interesting. I'm also glad we have a little more information about the "big bad." I will say that, like some of the previous books, the main conflict or challenge facing the hero was ultimately rather easily resolved, and I feel that the hero's pain/angst was being pointless dragged out. That might just be me though.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Small aside: I recommend rereading Allegiance of Honor before this one!
A HUGE favorite !!
I was a little hesitant about this book because I liked the previous one less but in the end I LOVED it !
What I particularly liked :
- writing always so rich ! All descriptions of texture, smell, taste... The scenes are almost palpable !
- the plot !! The one which had us holding our breath for several books with the Scarab Queen of course (huge progress here and I SO NOT expected the identity of the culprit ! And I'm so curious about her heiress ...) and of course the solution we foresee for the PsyNet ... And then the end of the whole drama with Monroe (BUT WHAT A BIG *SSH*L* !!)
- the characters who are so endearing ! Special mention for the Mercant whom I adore (Ena so badass but also Arwen on whom I WANT a novella !!) I loved seeing the members of Dark River again (Lucas <3) and of course the two main characters that I loved and who are the strong point of this book (Lei who was so colorful, so adorable, both badass and vulnerable despite her hardships ... I can't wait to see her evolve within Dark River ! // Ivan who was so adorable, that I wanted to cuddle with, his horrible past and of course his true identity which SO SURPRISED me !! And I loved his relationship with Ena and Arwen <3)
- the sweet romance but also sexy (the sex scenes <3) and adorable (their first dates <3)
In short, a book that delighted me from the first to the last page ! As usual, Nalini Singh's books are addictive =)
Ivan Mercant is the head of security for the Mercant family enterprises. Ivan has secrets in a family that specializes in secrets. His control is absolute even after the fall. That is until he finds a ray of sunshine in the form of an ocelot shifter who favors bright colors and happiness.
Ivan is not your typical Psy. Raised with his cousins from the age of eight he owes everything he is to the Mercant matriarch Ena Mercant. Family is everything. It gives him a reason for being and something to hold on to, keeping him from becoming a monster.
Lei is a shifter without a pack. Her life has been one crisis after another. Her cat wants Ivan and refuses to take no for an answer.
I loved this story. We get to visit with some old favorites. I like that the story emphasizes the necessity of folks from different backgrounds working together to make things happen for the good of all. This is a fantastic addition to the series.
How does Nalini Singh do it? It's beyond me how she has managed to create so many characters that I love, had them fall in love 21 (and counting) times in ways that feel fresh and new, and on top if it all create a compelling metaplot. Ivan and Lei weren't individually as memorable as some but I was invested in their relationship and liked where the metaplot took things in the larger story. Also, I'm a DarkRiver girlie so I'm always happy to hang around there.
