Rupi jamas decepciona, tiene una capacidad para que me sienta identificada con sus palabras que me parece imposible no marcar todo el poemario.

The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kuar
Quotes: despite knowing
they won’t be here for long
they still choose to live
their brightest lives
- sunflowers
we have been dying
since we got here
and forgot to enjoy the view
- live fully
Review: Over the years, I have seen so many wonderful quotes by Rupi Kuar online I wanted to read something by her. I picked up this book and Milk and Honey, and I will be reading that one, too.
I fully understand the writing is more for Women and their POV. I found there was a lot of universal wisdom and beauty in the book. There's a rawness, vulnerability, and beauty to the writing. The words simple enough but brought together formed an amazing collection of entries talking about some amazing things of life and some of the worst parts of humanity. One particular entry, "Home," was devastating to read.
Love, grief, death, abuse, self-acceptance, and so much more.
I took my time reading this, and I'm glad I did.

Amazing how Rupi Kaur effectively expresses so many feelings in few selective words.

My first one-star review! A milestone! This book sucked!
In all seriousness, I REALLY wanted to like this book, because I'm a huge fan of redefining genres, unusual formats, women being successful poets, the intersection of visual art and text, etc. Unfortunately this book just sucks so bad. It's a mix of slogans you could find on inspirational fridge magnets (paired with parentheticals that restate the already-blindingly-obvious message of the poem in even-more-obvious terms), and long rambling Notes App posts by what appears to be a fourteen-year-old going through her first breakup. Genuinely, I feel like a dick saying this, because I really don't want to be a poetry snob, and I like simple poetry! I just don't like empty poetry. And this poetry doesn't feel like something that has a heart. It just feels like something that has a target audience (fourteen-year-olds going through their first breakup who have yet to read their first inspirational fridge magnet) and that's it.
