The Wolf Den was certainly my favourite read of Jan 2023. A heartfelt story about women's history in Pompeii. Certainly this was not a fully relaxing read, there are some major trigger warnings to be aware of and a lot of reflection on human behaviour to be had.

I decided to read this book alongisde a spotify playlist tailored to the book and it was an interesting experience. I thought the music really complemented the story and fit thematically really well. I would recommend to anyone reading to give a playlist a try!

One of my favourite parts about The Wolf Den was the way the emotional scenes in the book really resonated with me, I could feel the women's pain, sadness, joy and heartache all at once. I thought the ending lent itself very well to a sequel and I am really looking forward to reading the second book in the series and the publication of the third book.

I never connected with this text.  Following prostitution in Pompeii there is a lot of graphic content.  While I have respect for the MC holding her ground throughout and fighting for better for herself.  There’s not much else I had to say.  I personally didn’t enjoy it. It just wasn’t badly written so I didn’t dnf

Due to the time setting also a lot of different types of slavery.

Think more just not for me

a bit of a slow start, but the prose of this book is something so different from any other modern greek/roman setting I've read, and when this book finally gathered it's bearings about a 3rd of the way in it had me hooked.

This was a beautiful story about friendship and loyalty. It was funny in places and heartbreaking in others. The language made it seem so real and the characters were so rich and complex.

A lovely story and I can't wait to read the second book.

Loved the characters and the authors style. She did loads of research into a real brothel of Pompeii and tied her findings into the scenes, writings on the wall, and characters. I liked that the book wasn’t too dark or depressing but still told the stories of these women and how the author believes they must have coped with their lives. These is humor, struggle, loss, and hope.
