From a historical stand point, it's great and does a wonderful job exploring what life was like for women working in a brothel in 74 CE Pompeii. But overall, the story was okay. There was nothing bad, but it didn't move me either or felt like series that I have and need to continue reading.

it’s been a long time since i was so transported into another world. harper writes such difficult topics with such ease that even if i only read 3 pages i felt instantly a part of pompeii. i felt amara’s struggles as keenly as my own, her losses, her despair, he determination to survive. truly this is a remarkable book.
