This is such a solid series and this book was yet another great addition. Rizzoli and Isles are the perfect team and a great example of well written female characters.
First I like how the books show the development of Rizzoli and Isles working relationship, as well as, their friendship. When the televison series first started, the characters relationship seemed to be already established. It's nice to see how it all started. I love that you have two female characters who are strong, great at what they do, able to work well with each other while recognizing each others strengths and not exploiting one anothers weaknesses, in order to look good or get ahead. They can disagree with one another and still remain cordial and get the job done. It is also nice to see two strong women, who were also capable of being vulnerable. Thank goodness this is not a stereotypical catty female friendship!
I really like the way that Tess Gerritsen is able to weave together multiple pieces and then have them all connect into one really neat mystery. Gerritsen is one of the few authors who usually leaves me guessing or has me unable to connect all the dots until very close to the end. I really enjoy her writing style and so far her stories seem unique.
As good as this was, I did have a few minor issues with this book. First, Rizzoli's partner, Detective Frost, seemed to be absent during some of the most critical parts of the story and their wasn't really any explanation given. That just seemed weird, especially since this was such a big case, I would have expected him to be a little more present. The only other thing I didn't like was that, their was a Detective in the book who was clearly a bigot. I understand the need to include characters that may not be likable but I couldn't stand that none of the other characters put him in his place. He almost ruined the book for me, but thankfully he wasn't too big a part of the plot. I am interested to see what happens with him in future books. Hopefully someone will challenge his ignorance.
This is definitely a series that I plan to continue. I can't wait to see what happens next, especially with Rizzoli's storyline.

The Rizzoli & Isles books may be my new favourite mystery/thriller series. The characters are well-written, the plots are interesting and mostly come together (I was questioning how some things were going to be relevant to the plot, but eventually Gerritsen pieced it all together), and everything is really fast-paced. This one was particularly creepy and honestly kind of disturbing at times, which was perfect. I'm really glad there are a bunch of books left in this series for me to read!

I am in love the with Jane Rizzoli series, as much as I love the show. I can’t wait to continue the series through 2012 and it just might be my go-to series this coming year, especially with the new Jane Rizzoli Challenge.
