Maxwell's exquisite worldbuilding and casually diverse cast of characters come together to tell a beautiful story of two dumbasses falling in love. Would recommend for fans of extensive worldbuilding, those who can withstand extreme secondhand embarrassment, and anyone who, like me, hasn't read anything other than fanfiction in a decade and frequents every version of the 'misunderstandings' tag.

First of all I liked the book quite a lot but there were some parts that I didn't like that much.

I still think the idea was really good and both Jainan and Kiem were so sweet. I liked the slow Burn romance and that it wasn't too present in the book. I just wished them telling each other that they like each other (at least sort of) would have been a bit later.

In the middle of the book there was a big down for me. And I could read further. And for one second I thought I gonna dnf this book because I was so unmotivated. Well I'm glad that it was only for a second because it got better again.

Also the first time we meet one of the "bad" people I knew the person will be the bad person. That was kind of sad but maybe that was just me being a hobby writer and me thinking about the possibility ways to continue the story. (Just me? Okay 🤣)

I really liked the writing style and I think I would read an other book by the author should the author publish an other book.

The blurb said its Ancillary Justice meets Red, White & Royal Blue which is accurate. It's got that intergalactic political intrigue with a dash of WHOA THOSE ARE ALIENS and hurt/comfort. Mostly comfort even when the characters don't know what they're doing. Sex scenes are closed door/fade to black. I really liked how specific body details weren't talked about, gender was 100% cultural symbols or being referred to as a gendered relationship ("sister" for instance, since the noble titles were all masculine: "prince" and "emperor").

I fully expected to love Witner’s Orbit and I did! It was delightful to read! I was immediately invested in Kiem and Jainan as characters. Watching them fall in love was so sweet. The plot is a bit slow at first but it gives you time to get to know the characters. The worldbuilding overall is superb. I especially enjoyed the political aspects. I hope to see more books like Winter’s Orbit in the future.
