My first western and it was so good. Mattie’s nearly-monotone narrative is so matter of fact and direct and becomes such a clever way to deliver this truly wild adventurous story. Need to watch the Coen adaptation asap.

Cowboys really were just a bunch of old racist assholes. But suppose they were people too. This book is aware of both facts. Rooster reminded me of a great uncle of mine and I’m sure he’s seen the old John Wayne movie plenty of times

I've finally read True Grit. It's a great book. Not only is the plot as rip-roaring as can be, but the voice of the protagonist is clear, strong, and unique. It's highly worth the read.
