This is my second friend. Katee Roberts book, and in my opinion, the friend-to-lover aspect is better than the smut, unlike where it was opposite in gifting me to his best friend. Drew and Avery made me believe they were actually best friends, unlike three people wanting sex. I like this for the friends-to-lovers trope, but the baby trope isn't for me, and the grandfather ruined the book for me. I understand that all people don't come from happy homes, but his negativity was bringing down the whole book. I am also happy that Alexis found out what she needed to heal from the verbal abuse of her grandfather and from not being able to have kids.

I picked this up randomly to listen to while I was working, and I was blown away by how much I really enjoyed it. This story follows best friends Avery and Drew. The duo grew up together and have been inseparable since elementary school. Now in their adult years, they both have a tiny crush on the other, but neither wants to risk their friendship to pursue something that may not pan out. Avery's mother passed away quite young from cancer, and her older sister discovered at 28 that she carried the same genetic markers as their mother. Avery's sister decided to have a full hysterotomy to save her life, and Avery is on the same path to need the lifesaving operation when she turns 28 in a year. She decides she wants to be a mother before she can't, but Drew does not like the idea of anyone else impregnating Avery besides him. Can Avery and Drew have a baby together while maintaining their friendship?
This short story was so sweet and very smutty. I love a friends to lovers story, especially one when the two individuals have a long history between them. It was so easy to fall for the characters and root for them because it is so clear from page one how perfect they are for one another.
Katee Robert just writes romance impeccably.

This was sexy and sweet. Drew and Avery had a lot of emotional baggage to work through. I did like how Drew came to terms with things, but seeking therapy could have been a long-term thing for him, too. Avery seemed to have a good handle on her issues and I thought she made a good choice to have a child. A lot of her reticence about a long-term relationship with Drew was tied up in his issues. This was a good story and I liked reading about Drew and Avery.
