This book really captures all the bad things about small towns. It was suffocating to read and I'm glad it is over.

I didn't like the cold case plot all that much, it's probably my least favourite among the books I've read in the series so far.

This book starts off sloooow. It doesn't pick up until you're about 60% of the way through but by then, Kinsey is stuck at dead end after dead end and doesn't make sense of things until about 85% of the way through. The ending is quick and Kinsey's usual confrontation with the killer is built up with wrought tension and suspenseful as always.

As with other Kinsey Millhone novels I fully enjoyed it and at points found it difficult to put down. At points this one was a little slow but it never dragged on in my opinion. I didn't figure out the who until quite near the end.

3...Same review as the last few books in this series...too predictable due to the age of the novels...just making my way through the alphabet...

Sue Grafton played up to her strengths, which is the descriptive. No one, nobody is better than she was at showing us these bits and pieces of metal, cloth, and concrete in which she hatched her characters.

Kinsey Millhone. In each book, this character felt different. Here she is plagued by a cold case. Thankfully Sue Grafton was a dab at creating small amounts of tension. This was believable enough.

Unfortunately for us readers who have grown up with Agatha Christie, Dorothy L Sayers, M.C. Beaton, and Ellery Queen, we must admit that the author here is weak at plotting. The murderer's identity was so simply concocted that it beggared belief. Still, the book is in my mind. Loved reading it.

reread as part of my Kinsey reread. I miss Henry and the sibs. and what a lot of mental illness the women suffer through.

This one took awhile for the story to come to fruition with such a quick wrap up. It definitely wasn't one of my favorite Sue Grafton books, but it was still a good book with action, drama, and a who dun it spin.
