I realize that Riggs is a hockey romance. Riggs and Veronica definitely had a very slow building romance. It wasn't even supposed to be a romance. It was supposed to be just sex, lots and lots of sex, but only sex.

The story was so much more. Riggs stepped up to protect his sister, Janelle, after the new step father tried to take liberties. Riggs is in a new town with new responsibilities. Realizing his sister needs something he gets her a job working with Clarke at the bookstore. It was only a matter of time until their lives would be upended. When life comes crumbling down it is his teammates and Janelle that step up to defend him. Team, family and love make for a great story.

Riggs
An Arizona Vengeance Novel
By: Sawyer Bennett
Narrated by: Connor Crais, Savannah Peachwood

Riggs. Quiet, good looking, keeps to himself. It's hard to gel with the team when he's not integrating himself into the fold. Since he came on, and his little sister, Janelle, has come to live with him, he has been keeping his distance. He even finds his relationship with his sister a little on edge, and it makes it hard for her to come out of her shell in her new home. When he finds her a job at the local bookstore though, both their lives are about to change. Veronica works for her friend, Clark at the bookstore. With a little encouragement, she is taking a new path in her life and will be training Janelle. And the two become fast friends. Too bad it isn't the same with her and Riggs. The chemistry is there, but these two just do not jive. Will Riggs get his act together and fix his life? Become a team player and possibly find the one who is for him? Enemies to lovers is a fun listen, and Sawyer Bennett plays this one perfectly. I was completely charmed by this couple and could not get enough. Their banter is entertaining, and the sizzle between them so enticing! Janelle is a fantastic character too! Her circumstances disturbing, it's wonderful to watch her grow. And Baden. What a friend! Riggs couldn't have a better one. I was not prepared for the twist in this story and now, it has left me wanting more! I can't wait to hear what Bennett has in store for us next.

Connor Crais and Savannah Peachwood are amazing storytellers, and truly enhance this story. Crais plays Riggs with an air of vulnerability that doesn't want to show. It's perfect! Peachwood falls into Veronica, making her authentic and much like a friend we want to have. These two compliment each other and made for an incredible listen.

CW: death, death of parent, kidnapping attempt, sexual assault

This was a nice "let's have sex but no feelings" book. I liked both Riggs and Veronica. I liked how they both worked to protect Janelle, even if they started from opposite sides. Watching how both Riggs and Veronica came to terms with themselves developing feelings for the other was enjoyable.

This was so much more than just a hockey romance. Sawyer Bennett not only gave the reader two incredible people who will instantly become a fan favorite but she also continued with the family first promise of the Vengeance team. Not only was there a beautifully written storyline of a brother and sister combination but also the emotional storyline of overcoming abuse and neglect. Riggs and Veronica finding love after Riggs makes sure that Janelle is always priority number one was a joy to read, However the ending and the epilogue will keep the reader on the edge of their seat and just saying "WOW".

I am not really sure why, but I was half in love with Riggs before this book started. I loved how he tried really hard to separate himself from his teammates. I felt like he was really trying to do the best thing for his sister. And when I read the blurb that Veronica, Clark’s best friend was the heroine. I fully stopped and eagerly awaited this to arrive on my Kindle!
Grumpy and Sassy sunshine is how I like to think of this pair. Veronica is a cheery lady and always so nice to everyone. But her ex really did a number on her emotionally. Veronica and Clark are an unlikely pair of friends, but they work perfectly together. I especially enjoyed Clark pushing Veronica out of her comfort zone and encouraging her to do something for herself.
Riggs is the grumpiest of grumpy guys. Upon his move to Arizona he also takes custody of his sister, Janelle. It is a learning curve for both of them, and adjusting was hard. Riggs closed himself off from his teammates and tried to keep his personal life personal. He plays hockey, but that is about all. He does grow close with Baden and I simply adored their little chats they had. Both of their personalities shined.
This is one of the most fiery enemies to lovers I have read to date. When these two are in the same room alone it is so steamy….and their secret little rendezvous are fantastic. Although Riggs and Veronica’s relationship is at center stage, the relationship that Janelle and Veronica build totally warmed my heart. Veronica so freely opens herself to Janelle letting her see the real her, and including her in her boisterous beautiful family life! Veronica definitely has a persona that she plays off to those that really don’t know her, and it works. It keeps people at a distance. But Veronica is a fierce woman that will stop at nothing to protect and love those that mean everything to her. The fierce way they both love is ultimately what brings them together, and that love isn’t a weakness it can actually make you stronger. Along with Riggs and Veronica we get little snippets into the lives of the other players and their ladies! If you have not read the other books in this series, you need to ASAP!

Heads up, you will be getting an intro to Baden’s story, and TRUST me you DO NOT want to miss it. Sawyer Bennett has always been a pre-order author for me, but friends I was agog. There were tears...lots of them. You are not going to want to miss this snippet. Just trust me….and then come thank me later!

He's so brooding and hot that you can't help but want to muss him up and make him smile. Riggs Nadeau is keeping to himself and trying his best to make a home for his sister. They've not had the best family environment and adjusting to parenting an almost adult sibling isn't without some mishaps. Now that Janelle is finally coming out of her shell with the thanks of a new job and new caretaker some breathing room is possible. He just didn't expect to want to take his down time into dirty time with the least likely person.
Veronica is building her like back in Phoenix. She's ready to tackle returning to school and is focused on goals. She is happy to help Janelle learn the ropes and is willing to keep her when her brother travels. To say that her and Riggs got off on the wrong foot is an epic understatement, yet frenemies can make the best for sexcapades. Neither of them are looking or wanting a relationship, but getting the feels might be inevitable. And when unexpected drama occurs, the course is laid.
And just wait for the last chapters, holy frigging hell Sawyer do you have to rip our hearts out and make us scream at the book?

I love this series and was really excited for Riggs’s book. I was glad we figured out why he had custody of his sister and he really seemed like a great brother. I absolutely loved Veronica! This would have been 5 stars for me, but for some reason Sawyer had Riggs hookup with someone else (off page) after his and Veronica’s first kiss. This was a total throwaway line to me and definitely turned me off. If this isn’t something that bothers you, then definitely pick this up! I liked the story outside of that.

I am glad I didn't let the low star reviews sway me from reading this book. It's was heart warning and heartbreaking.

Briggs was a closed of guy. Didn't let anyone close to him but a select few. Even some of them didn't know what he lived through as a young boy.
When an opportunity presented itself, he was able to save his sister from a bad situation. That's how he meets Veronica.
Veronica has been healing from an abusive marriage that she was able to get out of.
They started off not liking each other based on personalities and how they misjudged one another. Mostly Briggs. That's how he keeps others at a distance.
Eventually their dislike for each other turns to a just sex fling.
Before all this developed I want to inform all those about some low reviews about him sleeping with other people then sleeping with Veronica. He did sleep with someone on an away game. He came back without intent on sleeping with Veronica. Which never happened. They only made out. The author redeemed that by not letting him have a condom. Lol it wouldn't have mattered either way for me.
What led up to him going over to her place was out of misjudged reasons about his sister and what happened to her.
This doesn't bother me, they only kissed once before all this. So not reading this book based solely on that is really not doing anyone any good. You are missing out a a great read.
There is assault in this book. Not between MCs though. As well as talk about abuse and sexual assault. If those are triggers then I would advise to avoid reading.
