this chilling novella immersed me in the narrator’s fever-dream delusions. although bordering on melodramatic at times, there was beauty in the dark proses. the deeper themes are better understood with supporting material and historical context. on my list to reread.

Kafka on Benadryl and opium. There has never been (and there likely will never be) a person who HATES their wife as much as the protagonist of this novella does.

It's time I admit to myself that I just don't like absurdist novels. I feel the same way about this as I did Camus' The Stranger. The insane bouts of violent misogynistic language compressed into this 100 page book didn't help my reading experience either.
