I really wanted her to talk more about the reasons I’m scared of fatness… I see people in my family who are obese who are so uncomfortable in their bodies, who struggle with breathing and mobility issues, who suffer from weight-related issues. I don’t want that for me or for my kids. I was hoping she’d talk more about those fears, but she talked about societal perceptions of fatness instead.

It was good to have preconceptions challenged and to learn how it affects people of color in a very different way than white people. Lots of good learnings there!

I’m serious when I say a necessary text, when raising children in America. The resource pages in the back are so helpful and I immediately put more books on hold. Body anxiety is rising and having more information and better ideas about how to have these conversations are critical. The authors presents the information in a really accessible way. I would hand this out to every person who even looks at children if I could.
