read this a part of a book club where i’m trying to read things that i normally wouldn’t choose and i’m so glad i did! this was my first brandon sanderson book.
really beautiful and well written and such a cool world. but i had a hard time connecting to the story and the characters. thinking maybe having a
cheeky narrator kept me from connecting the way i would have liked to.

Once again - Sanderson never disappoints. But compared to his other works I’ve read, for me, this does rank on the lower end.
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter felt very different from the other cosmere novels. It has the classic Sanderson interesting magic system and whimsical storytelling. But it is far more character focused than plot, to the point where I felt like not a lot was happening. The book for me was saved from a basic 3 star by the final 100 pages - which were fantastic.
