I'm not going to give this a star review because it was a serious soul-baring by GT. But, I didn't enjoy it a whole lot.

I think listening to this in audiobook format really took away a lot of meaning, which I don't usually say. This writing was a lesson in alliteration, and GT had a very forceful narration style which, while being excellent for public speaking and advocacy, is really difficult to listen to for 12 hours.

The first half of the book was a rant about her childhood and how she grew up in the dirt (not on an iPhone like today's kids!), and was a real homage to those that raised her. But I didn't pick up this book to read about her aunties...

If you'd like to read a book about every single person GT has ever met, then go for it. They get rementioned in the acknowledgments too.

Grace is fiery and fierce, she speaks about her experiences with strength and reflection.. her acknowledgement that it has been hard, and she has made mistakes but she is human.
Her description of family made me feel warm and want to return home

Grace Tame is obviously incredible. Seeing her speak has been amazing. She’s very inspiring for becoming Australian of the Year in 2021 for leading a great campaign against child abuse, and the ability for the people subject to it being able to speak out following lawsuits. And also for refusing to conform.

But, sadly, this is not a good book (feel awful saying that

Confronting and sometimes very difficult to read, but anyone who knows anything about Grace Tame would surely expect that.

A challenging read, maybe it was my expectations or just my frame of mind. I’ve been a follower of Tame since she achieved the Australian of the Year award for her advocacy of keeping young people safe from predators. This is written about her childhood and the experiences she had that followed her childhood sexual abuse.

I will read this again.
