This was a raw, eye opening read. It took me a little to get through because every traumatic experience Grace shared had me in tears. She is an amazingly strong women who I admire even more after reading this!

Not sure if it is just that I don't mesh well with audiobooks... Or because I listened to the entire thing while driving... Or because it was just really long as an audiobook... Or I just got so used to her tone of voice, it would often become like "white noise" in the background. Anyway, it wasn't terrible. I think also, it might not have been a time to listen to an autobiography, or I prefer to physically read those kinda of books. Anyway, there isn't anything inherently wrong with it or the reading or the tone of voice etc. It might have just been that I'm not in the headspace for an autobiography at the moment. It was also choppy because I would listen to it at 30min intervals and a lot of time I would tune out (because I just generally do that or because I was concentrating on driving or the roads were noisy) and it was spaced out because I wouldn't be driving all of the time. I also don't want to rate it too poorly because it's not that her life (as yet) story is not 'terrible' (the things she experienced were horrible, but this is not what I am talking about here...I just cannot find the exact wording) and it's not that I dislike her as a person. It wasnt the absolute best telling of a story, but that is completely not her fault - she was just telling it as it is/was, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Like she said, she herself is still processing all of the things that she described, and I guess the writing and reading of this book is a part of that too.

grace wrote a love letter not only to the people and experiences that form the roots in her heart, but to herself - and it’s a privilege to be able to sit with what she’s chosen to share

I found this book confronting and also beautiful. Graces statements are something that I see clarity with, and I have learnt from. Her ideologies and life experiences show through this novel.
I enjoyed listening to her read her story and I hope to hear more from her, as she is a very smart and inspiring woman.

"I could wear my Iggy and The Stooges Year of the Iguana shirt during interviews and still be heard. If people took issue with it, that would be more of a reflection on them than me." -Grace Tame
"...it can be harder to diagnose women. Our idiosyncrasies can fly under the radar because we learn very quickly to fit in, albeit at the expense of our own identity and needs.....I am five foot three and weigh fifty kilos. I have to make myself big in other ways." -Grace Tame
As someone who had lived the life I have, I also know that there is serious harm- immense harm - in looking down on people who are at difficult points in there life. It is not as simple as saying 'drugs are bad'. Yes they have harmful effects. I'm not here to argue with that. But there are many people, people, who, through no fault of their own, have been shown no other means of getting by." - Grace Tame
"People are people. The concept of celebrity is as mythical a construct as any other man-made idea....the point is to not Make any particular commentary on them, but rather say I am not interested in the work of individuals because of their fame." -Grace Tame
"I am a staunch beliver in treating people on a case by case basis. What I do not believe in is casting blanket judgements about marginalised groups." -Grace Tame
