I know I'm buying several copies of this book to gift out to my friends and one for myself to re-read. This book is amazing and breaks down several myths about food and health, while being completely respectful to people from different backgrounds and belief systems. I think that if you or someone you know is interested in what changes you/they should do to their diets to be healthier, you should absolutely buy this book. It doesn't tell you "do this and you'll be healthy", it tells you "don't believe people who sell you miracle cures, health is complex and multidisciplinary, your relationship with food is the most important aspect of a personal diet, the BMI is full of shit". I stumbled upon it on accident and couldn't be happier about it.

Notable good things: promoting health AND enjoyment in life, anti-fatphobia, good recognition of privileges including socio-economic factors that affect food options, and critical analysis of research (though may not suit people with no background in scrutinising research as some concepts require prior knowledge)

A great run down on most of the most popular nutrition myths that people believe or people try to sell us. I used to believe in quite a lot of nonsense when I was young and struggling with eating disorders, but since then I have read a lot on the topic of nutrition that is evidence based, and follow the right people. Dr Wolrich is one of those people, as are people like Martin Macdonald, Ben Carpenter, and Pixie Turner. If you read around this topic enough within the evidence based nutrition sphere - whether online or in books - then none of this information will be new to you. None of it was new to me. However, I found it engaging and incredible easy to digest in the way it was written, and I wish I had bought it in hard copy rather than the kindle version so I could loan it to people. I would venture to guess that most people believe one or more of the myths in this book, based on the things I hear so many people in my life and online say, so it’s well worth a read. A one stop shop for helping you to not only think more critically about nutrition information you have heard, as well as a first step in repairing your relationship with food if it is not in the best place. And though I wish it were true that food is medicine, Wolrich will show you why it isn’t, even if nourishing yourself well can support good health (but not always...and that’s also not the same thing as medicine).

This type of writing is appalling. I don't need a book to start with an apology for the author being white, or male, or having time to cook. My sincerest apologies if I'm displaying bigotry, but *being able to afford healthy food and having the capacity to cook it isn't a privilege*, it's a basic human right. If having access to nutrition is something to apologize for, we've messed up tremendously as a society. Food is a right. As to the findings of the book itself: I skimmed it a bit and found some of it far-fetched. But it wouldn't matter anyway, because I'm tired of reading non-fiction that is 70% fluff, woke agenda, or blaatant anecdata.
