I love this story! I wasn't really expecting Jace and Teresa to be NEXT but I was glad for it. I loved Jace and his secret! Watching him try to resist, and seeing Teresa internalize everything was great! It's the ultimate love story man...she gets they guy she crushed on as a "kid" .....he falls for HER! That is just wonderful...

J. Lynn's writing is really starting to grow on me. Wait For You knocked me off my feet and since then, I've been a little bit obsessed with the characters of this serie.
Now, Be With Me is not the replica of book #1. It's actually a bit darker, or at least it was to me. There is still a lot of banter going on as well as a whole bunch funny moments. I really love J. Lynn's characters' voice. Avery and Cam cracked me up in Wait For You and Teresa was pretty much the same. But she is not Avery, and so, the tone of the book is a little bit different.
“What?” I shrieked and slapped his chest again…
“Ouch.” He rubbed the spot. “Does it disturb you that I’m kind of getting turned on right now?”
I shook my head. “Seriously?”
“Maybe?” he murmured, dipping his head and causing the ends sticking out from under the skullcap to sway. “I’m pretty erect right now to be honest.”
“Oh my God . . .” I rubbed my hand over my hot cheek…
”Want to smack me again? You could try my ass. I’ll probably like that.”
I stared at him.”
This book is about Tess and Jase. Tess is going through a rough patch, After a bad fall that resulted in her knee being busted, she can't go to dancing school and has to change the plans she had for herself and she's not really thrilled about that. So she pretty much goes through the motion of her new college life while waiting and hoping for things to go back to the way they were before her accident. But in the meantime, she has to go to college and face Jase, the guy she's had a huge crush on for quite some time now.
“You don't get it, Tess. I can't have you.”
After book #1 (and Trust In Me if you've read it) we know there is something going on between Tess and Jase. They obviously want each other but Jase has some hang ups about that. You see, he has a big secret that not many people know about, and the fact that he fancies Tess becomes a bit of a problem for him because she risks to find out about what he's hiding.
So, like I said, this book is much darker than Wait For You was. We deal with anger, guilt, regrets, and loss. Both our characters have a lot of things to deal with and they both have a hard time letting go of the past. But this book is also about accepting that sometimes, life doesn't go according to plan and that something that feels like a terrible thing can actually be the best thing to happen to us.
“My dream had been shattered, but then re-created, fashioned into something with more meaning and becoming more precious.”
Jase and Tess's relationship is a little more intense than Avery and Cam's. It doesn't take them as much time to face the fact that they want each other as more than friends, but it doesn't mean that theirs is an easy relationship. Quite the opposite actually. Jase is the one who has a hard time handling his feelings for Tess and so he screws up here and there. But thank God, he eventually comes to his senses.
I really loved Tess in this book. She cracked me up just as much as her brother did. Her voice in the book was really nice to read, especially when she was with Jase.
“My spine straightened as I gaped at him. “Are you fucking serious?”
He blinked once and then narrowed his eyes. “You don’t need to cuss.”
“I’ll fucking cuss if I want to fucking cuss,” I snapped. “Fucker.”
Jase was also very enjoyable. The guy is a good man at heart even though it takes him some time to get his head out of his....well you see what I mean. He was very sweet and charming and infuriating at the same time. We see him differently in this book than in book #1 and I think I fell in love with him even more when I saw him with his family. It would be hard not to.
“She’s a friend, Dad.”
“Uh-huh.” His father backed up, picking up the bucket. “Friends with a pretty gal like that, then you’re doing something wrong, son.”
He has a lot of unresolved issues, which makes us understand why he acts like he does and even though you want to hit him upside the head at times, you also want to hug him and take all his grief and pain away. I have a total crush on him too.
“I love you like I love cupcakes.”
I know it seems that this book is really different from book #1, and in a way it was, but J. Lynn has this crazy ability to write about very serious subjects in a way that makes it both intense and light. I know, it's hard to believe the two go together but in this book it does. Watching Jase and Tess turning around each other and get together was very sweet and yes funny at times. The whole phase where they tell themselves that they're "just friends" was very enjoyable.
“You know, I’ve tried staying away from you. I’ve tried ignoring how I feel about you, which isn’t how I should feel. But it’s like fighting a losing battle. And I don’t want to fight it anymore. I don’t want to ignore this.”
This book is also a bit steamier than Wait For You was. Tess has been through an abusive relationship before she met Jase but not the same kind of abuse Avery's been through, which made the physical aspect of Tess and Jase's relationship easier than it was for Cam and Avery. And let me tell you that when those two come together, the sheets are burning!
“He groaned deeply. “You keep looking at me like that, I’m going to strip the clothes off you and get so far deep inside you that I’ll never get out.”
I also very much enjoyed seeing more of Cam and Avery in this book. They're even more in love with each other (if that's even possible) and they're just so sweet. My heart swelled for them again. I also very much liked Cam's reaction to finding out about Jase and his little sister been together. I laughed so hard I actually cried.
“Yeah, okay, I might’ve overreacted, but it’s just because I care about you. You’re my sister and I’m supposed to act like a douche when it comes to guys you’re with.”
“You got that part down to a science,” Jase muttered.
Cam flipped him off.”
We see a little bit of Brit, Ollie,(I really want those two to have their own book) Jacob and Steph in this book, as well as some new characters such as Calla that I liked very much and other that I liked a lot less and actually scared the s**t out of me. I guess, those new characters helped give the book a little more action than there was in the previous one.
“That’s the thing about death that makes it useful. Death was always a reminder to the living to live—to live in the present and to look forward to the future.”
This book was brilliant. As brilliant as Wait For You but in a different way. I loved the plot and the characters. The themes are different and overall, this book was somewhat darker than the first one due to the themes it dealt with, but I found the funny, light side that I liked in it as well. It's a book about having faith in life and people, about letting go of the past but also accept that it is a part of us. And it's a book about learning to make the best out of a bad situation, and finding out that maybe, something bad was actually a good thing.
I really recommend this book to those who have read the first book in the serie, as well as those who haven't read them yet. I, for one, will be on the look out for book #3.
