I think the series is great. It’s a very good idea. I love the way they tie together magic and astronomy. Like astronomy is the way of opening the door in this country. I loved the professeur. She’s seems so self confident about those lines in the desert.
However, I think the plot twists are very predictable. I still don’t get why Fabian would turn evil in the end. Like I get his reasons but if he really wanted the Ancient to come back, why did he helped Matthew in the first book? Why didn’t he prevent him from destroying the door ? He could have I guess.

After reading the first one I was super excited to read this...... what a let down.

This book starts off strong. Almost a Stephen King feel with the way he writes Nd entices you into the story.

Then Matt after a stressful event makes his way to Peru and that for me is where I lost all interest.

It then moves onto a style like LOTR. There is just so much walking and travelling. This story is also based on the same events as the first book, finding the second gate and keeping it closed.

Not impressed with how the style of writing changed and the ending felt rushed.

My colleague has recommended I still read the third one which I may do

I speeded up the audible and finished reading. I needed to know what happens next fast!! Matt found the One of Five in Peru, which is great!! I feel for helpless Richard. He cannot do anything to prevent the kids to get involved in a trouble. The trouble which is so big that they almost get killed...

I need to read on.
