So much of this was better than The Queen Of Blood. For one, I really loved seeing Daleina as Queen. She's my fave, she is my one true ruler. I liked seeing more mentions of Merecot, and I like basically all of the supporting cast, especially Bayn. However, I wasn't the biggest fan of Naelin for much of the book. This is a personal opinion, and I don't relate to her in the slightest, I'm 21 and don't have any kids. I'm not even sure if I like kids, so I couldn't fathom her selfishness and her unwillingness to train. She was putting her kids before the whole nation of Aratay, and I just don't get it!! I only started liking her more when she decided to train. And the conclusion was fantastic!!!!! This series is so good.

It was good to settle back into this world of bloodthirsty spirits and politics and catch up with the characters. The new introductions added a good facet to this gem of a world.

Reading Sarah Beth Dursts books hurts, I don't know why I put myself through it.

Holds up to the first

While the world is mostly built now, we have new characters to follow and admire. Nothing is black and white, and the only constant is loss, but it's a hopeful book for all that. I look forward to the next.
