5 stars: Not because I thoroughly enjoyed it; quite the contrary. This book is sick. It’s awful. It’s gross. All that said, it had me hanging on the edge of my seat, because I HAD to know what happened next. I almost quit right at the end, but I couldn’t.

ps the ending reminded me of the movie ‘Men’.

Disturbingly dark. Not at all what I expected — but heinous nonetheless. This nontraditional tale of horror will definitely fuck up your brain.

This was truly one demented, excessively gory and odious, yet unique book. I don't think I'll ever be able to read this book again. I really enjoyed it, i think. 😅 I like to think i have a pretty strong stomach. I've seen many a thing in my life, but NEVER before has a book made me so nauseated that I physically turned the book from my face and looked away from it to process and not vomit on my book and bed 🤢... but just like true horror, it drew me back in.

This was a "read at your own pace" buddy read, with three IG friends. We shall see what they think as well!!

This was easily the most messed up book I've ever read. It felt very real, the scenarios that were laid out in the novella. Everything I read felt like it has happened or could happen to someone in real life, and that made it 10x creepier. The visceral descriptions that were seemingly sprinkled in every other paragraph were intense, to say the least. It makes you wonder how a persons mind could conjure up some of these ideas, but in another way it makes sense that someone could conjure up these things.

Our main character, Johnny, on the surface seems like a very relatable guy. He has some trauma and he's looking for ways to get through them and rise above. However, once you break past that surface you quickly find out his ways aren't very relatable, but you still, somehow, hold sympathy for him. That's always such a weird thing to experience in reading. Being able to feel sympathy for someone who is about to commit a heinous act. I suppose that's just our human nature.

For such a short read, it truly makes you think a lot and dive deep into the inner workings of human beings. I'm not the one to shy away from the macabre, so I enjoyed this book a lot and want to look into more of his works.
